A sliding gate needs enough side runback for the leaf and hardware. A swing gate needs a clear arc and suitable grade and hinge structure. Sloped approaches, tight driveways, and obstructions can change the practical choice.
Mechanical Upkeep
Sliding systems depend on sound rollers, guides, track or cantilever hardware. Swing systems depend on hinges, posts, arms, and leaf alignment. Poor mechanical condition cannot be fixed by selecting a more powerful motor.
