A Moving Gate Is Machinery
Sliding gates create potential trapping, crushing, shearing, and vehicle/pedestrian conflicts. Product features alone do not make an entire installation safe.
Standards And Instructions
Eagle identifies UL 325 and UL 991 compliance and ETL listing for the Eagle 1000 FR. Installers must follow the applicable edition of the manufacturer's instructions, relevant standards, and local requirements.
Protection Is Site-specific
Entrapment zones and required independent protection devices depend on the gate design and installation. A bundled photo eye is not evidence that every hazard has been addressed.
Separate Pedestrian Movement
Provide an appropriate pedestrian route rather than inviting people to walk through the moving vehicle gate. Keep controls and access points positioned according to the installation instructions.
Before Commissioning
Have a qualified installer verify gate condition, guards, safety devices, reversing behavior, manual release, signage, and user training. Do not bypass or defeat safety systems to make an operator run.
Walk The Entire Travel Path
Ask a qualified installer to examine the gate at fully open, fully closed, and intermediate positions. Look for places a person could be trapped between the moving leaf and a wall, fence, post, or other fixed object. A single beam across the driveway cannot be assumed to cover all of these zones.
What To Request At Handover
Request a demonstration of the installed protection devices, warning signs, pedestrian route, manual release, and fault response. Keep the manual and inspection schedule. DASMA's gate-safety guidance emphasizes using the current operator instructions and addressing hazards for the entire system.
Your Next Step
Ask the installer to show which hazards were identified, how the approved protection devices address them, and what happens when a device reports a fault. Obtain the current manual and a documented commissioning and user-handover record.
